Manchester United close in on Mesut Ozil
Manchester United are apparently all set to be closing in on capturing the signature of Werder Bremen playmaker and super star, Mesut Ozil. A transfer for Ozil was rumoured to take place in the near future, but it seems as though it’s going to be taking place even sooner than initially accepted with the player likely to be heading to Manchester United. After watching United tour the United States, Alex Ferguson has identified that he still needs some more reinforcements and the one player he must have is Ozil. He hopes of concluding the deal as soon as possible so that the transfer window doesn’t end up closing before a formal agreement is made between the two teams.
Alex Ferguson has already brought in Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez but he still insists that he needs someone who possesses creativity, pace and flair in the midfield. It would also help if that someone was capable of scoring goals as well. It was fairly obvious that the manager was indicating that he wished to add another midfielder and currently there is no one better than Ozil.
Ozil has been in sensational form ever since he won the European under twenty 21 championship with Germany. He was initially thought to be a poor choice for the German squad in the FIFA World Cup 2010, but he silenced his critics by giving some of the best performances ever witnessed at the tournament. He was phenomenal in the German midfield and was responsible for most of the attacks that were launched by Germany. He even scored a spectacular goal against Ghana from outside the box, which was voted to be one of the best at the tournament. He even played architect in Germany’s four goal to one thrashing of England and their four goal to nil thrashing of Argentina. He managed only one assist in each of those games but his contributions throughout the game were immense.
This spectacular display at the World Cup saw him being nominated and then short listed to take home the Golden Ball, which is awarded to the best player at the World Cup. He was also nominated for best young player at the tournament but the award was given to his team mate Muller instead.
None the less, Werder Bremen are still looking to offload the superstar in order to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer next season when his contract expires. They have become so desperate that they are looking to sell him for as little as twelve million pounds. Twelve million pounds may seem like a lot to some people, but it is peanuts when you compare it with the skill and talent that Ozil possesses. It is kind of surprising to think that Bremen are willing to let him go for so less, when they could easily make around twenty million or so off his sale. He was also the leading assist taker in the German Bundesliga last season, which if anything should only add to his current value.
It is still not definite if he will be joining Manchester United or not, since there are numerous other clubs that are looking to sign the player, but they would definitely be one of the favourites to sign him.
