Manchester United consider recalling Tom Cleverley from loan spell
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he is considering bringing midfielder Tom Cleverley back to Old Trafford
The youngster is currently out on loan at fellow English Premier League club Wigan Athletic and, while he has only featured once for the Latics this season due to an knee injury, Ferguson has revealed that he could exercise an option in the loan agreement
to recall the youngster in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils boss said that he believes 21-year-old Cleverely is ready to fight for a first-team place at the EPL giants.
'Could be top player'
He told Inside United that: "We'll probably bring Tom back in January. Tom's going to be a great footballer, I really like him. I've heard the fans are starting to talk about Tom, and I think they're right to do that because he could very well be the next
top player to come through the ranks."
The England Under-21 international impressed during a loan spell at Football League Championship side Watford last season and enthralled onlookers with his displays in United’s pre-season tour of North America. However, he has yet to feature for United at
first-team level.
When talking about the decision to farm Cleverley out on loan once again, Ferguson said that: "I felt it could be hard to give him enough football. I think five or six months on loan could really help him. He'll benefit from first-team football in the Premier
League."
During Cleverley’s spell at Watford, he made an immediate impact, scoring in his first two matches with the club. His third strike in November, against Blackpool, saw him become the joint top-scorer. He went on to net 11 times in total in 35 appearances
and was also named as the club’s Player of the Year.
