Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has asserted that he will be fully fit to face Manchester City in the semi-final of the FA Cup despite sustaining an injury in the UEFA Champions League win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Ferdinand, who recently returned from a knee injury, did not look fully comfortable against the Blues as he held his right leg for most part of the match. Despite his discomfort on the field, Rio Ferdinand played full ninety minutes and put up a highly impressive
performance to help Manchester United reach Champions League semi-final.
Ferdinand, who played a huge part in Manchester United’s wins over Chelsea in both legs, has now set his sights on the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against local rivals Manchester City.
The former English skipper claimed that his injury will not affect his participation against City at Wembley and wants to help Manchester United to qualify for the final of the FA Cup.
Rio said, “I will be fit for the City game. It's a massive week for us and it will be a huge game for all our fans. The fans are great – they sing their hearts out and when you need a lift during the game, you rely on them to get behind the players.”
Ferdinand also hailed his team’s extraordinary performance against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final and claimed that the win against the Blues at Old Trafford showed that the Red Devils have what it takes to win silverware in the ongoing 2010-11
season.
“Bouncing back after just conceding a goal takes character – and we've got that in abundance in this squad. You know you're going to have to dig deep against a team like Chelsea. They are not going to lie down and let you take the game away from them,” he
said.
Manchester United’s hopes of winning three different competitions and emulating the 1999 treble winning season are very much alive.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will now face German side Schalke 04 in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
