Manchester United duo wins Premier League monthly awards
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson and striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 have been awarded the Barclays manager and Player of the month awards for January.
The Bulgarian has won the prestigious award for the second time and it his first while donning the Red Devils jersey. Berbatov and former strike partner http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robbie-Keane-c31215 jointly held the title in April 2007. The 30-year-old marksman
kicked off the New Year in emphatic fashion, managing five goals from five fixtures in January. The striker currently leads the Premier League goal-scoring charts with 19 goals from 21 league appearances. The Bulgarian has hit the green patch this season,
overshadowing the misfiring http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, who has only scored five times this season. The striker has already scored three hat-tricks this season and would want to keep up the momentum in the coming months.
For Sir Alex, this award is not new to him, as he has won it more than any other Premier League manager has. The January award takes the tally to 25 for the Scotsman, who just does not seem to age. In January, Sir Alex Ferguson’s
men managed to win four out of five Premier League matches, with just one draw. They ended the month on a high, when they managed a come-from-behind victory against Blackpool. The side is still undefeated in the Premier League and has a five-point lead over
runner-up Arsenal.
Manchester United have won a total of 13 points from a possible 15 this season, including home wins against Stoke City (2-1) and Birmingham City (5-0); and away wins against West Bromwich Albion (1-2) and Blackpool(2-3). Their
only draw came against Tottenham Hotspur, where the Red Devils had to fight tooth and nail to maintain their unbeaten run in the Premier League. Fergie’s men have been known to play at their best on the turn of the New Year and this year is no different. The
team was absolutely on fire in January.
This award is given by a panel of judges, which includes representatives from the fans, media, Football Association and the Premier League officials.
