Manchester United eyeing Anders Lindegaard as van der Sar’s heir
It has been a long time since Manchester United have been trying to find a heir to their goal keeper, Edwin van der Sar. The Dutch van der Sar who is 39 years old has stated that he might play for just a year more and after that he will retire which has left Manchester United in a scurry to find and develop a world class goal keeper by then. Their current number 2 choice for the post is Tomasz Kuszczak, the 28 year old Polish, who has claimed that he can prove to be the next number 1 of Manchester United.
This statement has come after the Red Devils had confirmed rumours that they are indeed in the chase of trying to sign in the Aalesunds 28 year old shot stopper Anders Lindegaard. This has also been confirmed by the club’s Norwegian Director who has said that the negotiations are under way but they have not confirmed anything yet.
The youthful Lindegaard is praised by many and thought to be the next legendary goal keeper who is in the league of Peter Schmeichel. The former Manchester United goal keeper was regarded as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in Europe and has been considered among the best goal keepers of the century having played 292 matches for United.
The Manchester united manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping that the signing will take place before the aging van der Sar departs from Old Trafford.
Henrik Hoff has stated there is a very low chance that United will get a low price tag on the player, he expressed, “Manchester United have not been in contact with us directly, but I can confirm that there is an interest. There is no smoke without fire. In case a big club like Manchester United show interest in our players, we are ready to negotiate”.
He added, “But Anders Lindegaard is in my eyes the best keeper in the Tippeliga and if he should be sold, a big sum will be required”.
Tomasz Kuszczak on the other hand has instigated that he is the rightful descendant to the throne and has claimed that he should be given a chance to prove himself.
Kuszczak has insisted to Ferguson that it will be better if he cares for the talent he already has rather than searching for it. Other players like Hugo Lloris, Igor Akinfeev and Manuel Neuer have also been on the Scotsman’s radar as possible replacements for van der Sar.
Kuszczak has stated, “I hope it will be a big season for me. This will be my fifth with the club and I hope to play even more games. My challenge is simple, after Edwin finishes I want to be number one at Manchester United”.
Kuszczak has relayed that it has not been very easy for him to sit idle and not be part of the playing eleven. He has stated that he aspires to have a better career in which he can prove his worth to the team and evolve as a better player. The Polish goal keeper also mentioned that Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs and he hoped that he had a long and successful career with them.
He however did know that it takes time to reach a certain level of trust and skill after which he can be admitted into the starting line up. He uttered that he had been practicing hard in the training sessions and was steadily improving.
He did comment on his injuries too saying that he had a stream of bad luck but had overcome them. He stated that the last few matches had certainly given him a boost of morale and he hoped that he will perform even better in the future. The keeper expressed, “I want to become a better goalkeeper and learn new things and hopefully I will get more opportunities this season”.
