Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen praises team and fans – Bundesliga news
Manchester United first-team coach, Rene Meulensteen, has praised the Red Devils for a successful season and admits that the fans played a huge role in their success.
United won a record 19th English Premier League title, which saw them overtake http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 as the most successful club in the country. The Red Devils also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they lost to bitter rivals, Manchester City.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men also made it to the final of UEFA Champions League but lost 3-1 to Barcelona at Wembley.
Meulensteen believes that the Champions League final loss has marred a hugely successful season for his club. The former Brondby manager believes that none of the English teams enjoyed the same success as United this season and they are looking forward to
replicate the same performances next season.
"We've had a fantastic season but it could've been an absolutely great season. We can't forget we've been to the semi-final of the FA Cup and the final of the Champions League against Barcelona. We have to hold our hands up as we played a really good team
with great, great players.”
"It doesn't take anything away from what we've achieved. 19 titles is an unbelievable achievement - the players and fans deserve it.” He said.
Meulensteen praised the fans for their vocal support and believes that without them nothing would have been possible. The Old Trafford fans are known to be an inspiration for United in the past too and they are famous for their support for converting defeats
into wins for their side.
The coach believes that the 80,000 supporters present at the Theatre of Dreams terrify the oppositions with their roars and lift the team spirits hugely.
Meulensteen hinted that United will make some reinforcements to their squad for the next season and a lot of reserve team players are expected to be given first team chance. United face a tough task to replace the retiring goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar,
and are expected to make some reinforcements to their midfield too.
