Manchester United hope to sign goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he is eager to complete a deal for Aalesunds goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard over the next few weeks.
The Red Devils have been looking for a long term replacement for Edwin van der Sar for some time, with the 40-year-old Dutchman nearing the end of his career.
Officials from Norwegian outfit Aalesunds arrived in Manchester last week to talk to their counterparts at Old Trafford, and were keen to tie up a transfer for highly rated Dane Lindegaard, but the deal has not yet been completed.
Ferguson told reporters: "It is not completed at the moment but there has not been a hiccup either. It will probably happen in the next two or three weeks, but the announcement (of the player's transfer) was a bit premature."
Lindegaard has been on Ferguson's radar for several months and was reported to be undergoing a medical exam last week ahead of a potential move worth a reported four million pounds.
The goalkeeper told reporters last week that he did not know if he had played his last game for Aalesunds as the Norwegian League finished in October. He said: “My plan is to move on now. You have got to be a very good goalkeeper to get sold these days.”
Lindegaard has been at Aalesunds since moving from Odense Boldklub in his homeland. He helped Aalesunds to reach fourth place in the Norwegian League in 2009. In his time at Odense, he helped them to win the Danish Cup in 2007.
He has also made three international appearances for Denmark in the UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying campaign, and also featured in the 0-0 friendly draw against Czech Republic on 17 November.
