Manchester United hopeful Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling will make their mark on Premier League
The Football World Cup is almost over and the attention is being drawn to the domestic leagues, as the new season kicks off in less than a month’s time. The official new kits have been revealed and the preparations are underway for the start of the new season everywhere in Europe.
The English Premier League will be starting in the first week of August and Manchester United, after claiming three successive titles and then being dethroned by Chelsea, will be looking to bounce back and try to win the league. However, this time it will be more difficult than ever before.
Chelsea are on the back of their 3rd Premier League win and with a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti, they will take some doing if they are to be denied a second consecutive title.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are also looking busy in the transfer market and are trying to bolster their attack and defence along with buying a new goalkeeper in order to mount a decent challenge, while Liverpool are also with a new manager in Roy Hodgson and we all know what he did with Fulham last season.
Then there are the likes of Tottenham, who, after breaking the monotony of the ‘Top Four’, will be looking to impress once more, while Manchester City have all the cash in the world made available to them in order to topple their neighbours off the top of the perch.
However, despite all this, Manchester United are confident that they will be able to take their title back from Chelsea and their latest signings Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling will play a major role in their resurgence.
Mike Phelan, the assistant Manchester United manager, is of the view that Mexico striker Javier Hernandez, who was a star performer for his country at the World Cup (he scored 2 goals) will be a major influence at the Old Trafford Club.
Red Devils signed the 22 year old Mexican striker just before the World Cup for a paltry fee of 7 million pounds, and are lucky to have done that, as after seeing his performances at the World Cup, his stocks have risen sharply.
Although Hernandez scored only twice at the World Cup with one an absolutely delightful strike against Argentina, he was instrumental in whatever his team achieved in the World Cup in South Africa.
"We were pleased with what we saw at the World Cup," Phelan told manutd.com.
Phelan believes that it is money well spent after seeing the teen prodigy perform wonderfully well at the World Cup, and is hopeful of getting the youngster onboard as soon as possible.
Javier has been on holidays since his team’s ouster from the World Cup at the hands of Argentina in the second round, but he will be joining his new teammates on the tour of United States when Manchester United play his old club Guadalajara on the 30th of July.
The game, which will prove to be a massive money minter for the Mexican club, was a part of the deal to sign the Mexican striker.
United are hopeful that the striker will hit the ground running from the word go, and are of the view that there is a nice blend of experience and youth in their squad, which may prove to be the deciding factor in the fate of the title next year.
United begin their tour of the US on Monday when they arrive in Chicago, and along with them will be another of their young signings Chris Smalling.
United signed Smalling from Fulham for a fee of around 7 million pounds and although the central defender impressed massively at the start of the season, a dip in form later on restricted the defender to the role of a bench warmer.
However, United are confident that the defender can play an important role in their title bid, and under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson he can set the world stage alight.
