Manchester United interested in signing Manuel Neuer
German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 chairman Clemens Tonnies has revealed that the English Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in signing goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as they look to find a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

Moreover, a disappointing season at Schalke may also play a role in the youngster’s move away from the club as he is also looking for regular opportunities to play in the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, Manchester United have Edwin van der Sar as the first-choice goalkeeper but the 40-year-old Dutchman is going to hang his gloves by the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season.
According to reports, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is not confident about the abilities of Tomas Kuszczak and is looking for a perfect replacement for van der Sar. However, if United do plunge into the market for Neuer, they will face stiff competition from
reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich who are also very keen in signing the German international. Munich coach Louis van Gaal openly expressed his interest in Neuer by saying that his club “could do with Manuel.”
Schalke 04 chairman revealed that according to an international consultant, United are genuinely interested in signing the goalkeeper during the summer 2011 transfer window.
