Manchester United’s legendary number seven, Eric Cantona, has praised http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Scholes for his contributions for the Red Devils over his 17-year career. Scholes announced his retirement at the end of the recently concluded 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international is receiving plaudits from all quarters in the wake of his retirement from football. Scholes spent his entire professional career at Old Trafford, starting from the youth academy back in 1991. The midfielder has enjoyed plenty

The news of his retirement, while not unexpected, still came as a blow to many United fans. Scholes will be sorely missed in the United midfield, and supporters are starting to wonder whether anyone has the talents necessary to take the place of the little
genius in the centre of the park. Naturally, such a legendary player deserves a legendary sendoff, and that is exactly what Scholes will be getting.
The New York Cosmos have been invited to Old Trafford for Paul Scholes’ testimonial in August, and leading the American team from the sidelines will be none other than Eric Cantona. The Frenchman is a part of the folklore at Manchester United, having played
a huge part in the club’s revival in the early 90’s.
Cantona congratulated Paul Scholes for a long and successful career with the Red Devils, saying, “I wish to congratulate Paul for such an incredible career at Manchester United. I am looking forward to returning to Old Trafford in my new role with the New
York Cosmos."
The man of the moment himself is excited at the prospect of Eric Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson locked in a battle of wits. Cantona will have a chance to one-up his old boss when he brings the New York Cosmos to face United for Scholes’s testimonial.
Speaking on the upcoming encounter, the midfielder said, “This is going to be a big night for me and my family but one which I intend to enjoy and I will savour every moment. I have spent my whole footballing life at Manchester United, so this will be an
emotional farewell. This club is special in many ways but the fans are the best and I have always appreciated their support throughout my career.”
He added, "I hope they enjoy the night, especially seeing the boss and Eric battling it out in front of the dugouts."
Manchester United are Barclays Premier League champions for the 2010/11 season – a title winning end to legendary Scholes’ career.
