Manchester United are hot on the heels of German and Bayer Leverkusen stopper, Rene Adler, and are in pole position to acquire his services for £15 million.
The German side’s sporting director, Rudi Voeller, has admitted they could do nothing to stop Manchester United from prizing away their most talented player if the Premier League leaders match the German international’s buyout clause.
Adler is a self-confessed Manchester United fan and has been linked as a potential successor to Edwin Van der Sar, who recently confirmed, he will retire at the end of the season.
Voeller told Sport 1, “As a child, Rene Adler was a fan of Manchester United”.
It is believed the German international has a buy-out clause of roughly £15 million and Manchester United are ready to invoke that clause as they look to replace Van der Sar. Voeller admitted, "For him there is a release clause for Manchester United. We
want to keep him in our club and have had good talks. But even if he goes, we will go on at Leverkusen".
The 26-year-old, who has nine caps for Germany, is by no means the only name in the frame to replace the aforementioned Dutchman.
Manchester United coach, Rene Meulensteen, recently suggested Ajax’s Maarten Steklenburg was the club’s ideal choice, but the Red Devils have also been strongly linked with Atletico Madrid’s young stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463.
In other goal keeping news, Arsenal has been hit with the news that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukasz-Fabianski-c22910 has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.
It was reported on Wednesday that the Polish shot-stopper would not feature again during this campaign because he needed surgery on his shoulder injury.
Arsene Wenger has now confirmed the news and Fabianski will undergo the operation on the injury - picked up during the warm-up prior to the Manchester City clash last month - in the near future and not be available again until next season.
In his absence the number one jersey will go to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386, back after an injury lay-off of his own on the bench.
Wenger said: "We had bad news for Lukasz Fabianski because he needs surgery on his shoulder.
