Manchester United locks in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 for another two years with contract extension
Patrice Evra has signed a two year extension to his existing contract with Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until the end of 2014. There was a lot of speculation that the left back will leave for Real Madrid in the summer and United were
linked to a host of players to replace him.
“Ever since I arrived at United, it’s been a dream come true playing here,” Evra told ManUtd.com. “The fans, the players, the manager and the staff all work hard to make this club the best in the world. “I’ve won a lot in the last five years,
but I want to win more and I know that’s the mentality of everyone here.”
Evra joined United in January 2006 and since then he has become an integral part of United’s defence. He made his debut in the Manchester derby but he faced difficulties in adapting to English playing conditions. It took him some time to get accustomed to
the Premier League and become a first team regular in the following season. Evra earned a place in the 2007 Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) team of the year and later that year, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603.
Since then, Evra has made 225 appearances for the club and has been a key figure of the deadly United defence alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wes-Brown-c36791. Evra has also scored three goals for United. His attacking play is as good as his defensive
and Sir Alex Ferguson has also played him as a left winger in some matches. Evra has won three Premier League titles, three League cups, two FA Community Shields, UEFA Champion’s league and FIFA Club World Cup with the Red Devils.
Before joining United he played with AS Monaco and helped them in winning the 2002-03 Coupa de la Ligue. He also helped them finish runners up in the 2004 UEFA Champions League, where they lost 3-0 to Porto in the final.
Evra was handed the captaincy of the French national team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup when Nikolas Anelka was sent home after a bust up with manager Raymond Domenech. He ended up with two caps for the side. Later in the tournament, Evra led a player protest
in wake of the decision to remove Anelka and refused to train. The left back was banned by the French football federation to play any international games for the country.
United expects more from the player and fans hope he can deliver in the form of another cup for the club.
