Manchester United looking to land Edwin Van Der Sar's replacement
Manchester United have been on the long term look out to find a replacement for their aging veteran shot-stopper Edwin Van Der Sar. The team has in the past been linked with a move for countless keepers, but it seems like the team is looking to make the
approach for Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg. The keeper is reported to have grown rather frustrated at the club, following the shock departure of the team manager Martin Jol from the club.
The keeper, who towers in at six feet six inches tall, has managed to replace Van Der Sar as the Dutch national team's keeper and was in rather superb form during the FIFA World Cup 2010. The keeper had sparked a number of rumors, following his performances
that he would be on the move to a much bigger club in Europe, but those rumors failed to materialize. However, with Manchester United having signed Anders Lindegaard, already it appears like the team is getting rather serious in their pursuit to land a quality
keeper and Stekelenburg could potentially be on his way to England as early as January.
Van Der Sar is reported to be willing to hang up his boots and gloves by the end of the season and Alex Ferguson is said to want to bring in his replacement, before the number one at United calls it quits. This is mainly so that the keeper can show him the
ropes at the club and help mentor and coach his future replacement. According to the experts, if United are to make an approach for the keeper, then he is set to cost them somewhere in the region of ten million pounds, which by all means would appear as a
bargain to United.
The only reason that the keeper is going to be allowed to leave for such a cut short price, is due to the fact that Ajax are suffering some serious financial problems at the club and are now being forced to part with their star players, to try and cover
some of their losses. However that being said Ferguson might use this as an opportunity to get rid of some of the excess players at the club, by making them a part of the deal.
All in all, it seems like a win-win situation for both the clubs, the players and the managers.
