Reports coming out of England have suggested that Alex Ferguson is looking to make a move for French midfield magician, Yoann Gourcuff. The manager has been a long term admirer of the player and feels that the time to bring in the player’s creativity and
dominance to Old Trafford is now or never.
The 24-year-old French international has previously played for the likes of Bordeaux and AC Milan, but is currently employed by Lyon, having joined the club at the start of the season. However, following a rumoured bust-up with his manager and not being
able to adapt to the playing style adopted at the French club, it seems like Gourcuff is all but certain to leave Lyon at the end of the season, having been there for only one season.
Gourcuff made his debut when he took to the field as a teenager with Rennes. In fact his performances were so brilliant, that he was brought into AC Milan during the 2006-2007 season. It was greatly believed that at Milan he would be able to stabilize his
career and reach its epitome, however, that was not the case. The midfielder failed to adjust to the playing style at Milan and was signed by Bordeaux in 2008.
Once the player returned to the French league, he once again managed to show his dominance and presence in the middle of the park and proved to be the driving force behind Bordeaux’s title winning season – which was also the first time the team had achieved
that feat in a decade. Having spent three quality seasons with Bordeaux, the player was then signed by Lyon.
However, so far the player’s career at Lyon has been a rather mixed one. Despite playing rather well, he is yet to really impress for the team and has often appeared to be on a completely different wave-length than the rest of the squad. So far the player
has managed to make 26 appearances for the team and has scored three times and picked up three assists along the way. It is unclear as to what the reasons for his inability to adapt to the team are, but it is safe to say that he is yet to fit-in at the club.
At the same time Ferguson is looking to strengthen his midfield and hopes to do just that by capturing Gourcuff. At the moment, the manager has the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394; all of whom can play in the centre of
the pitch. However, with Scholes set to retire sooner than later, Ferguson is not willing to risk playing the waiting game to land a quality midfielder.
According to most experts, if United are to land the player then they are going to have to offer Lyon a fee in the region of 22 million Euros, which is the fee that the French side paid Bordeaux, when they landed the player at the start of the season.
