Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson happy with fringe players
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson stated that he was delighted with his fringe players after a number of first team regulars were left out of the team that beat Bursaspor 0-3 in the Champions League.
The Manchester United manager chose a number of young players for the visit to Turkey and the team put in an assured and professional performance.
"I'm very pleased with them. They played very well,” he said.
Chris Smalling was exceptional as he filled in for captain Rio Ferdinand, while Gabriel Obertan and Tiago Bebe both scored their first goals for the club in Europe.
“Obertan's developing very well and getting much stronger now. He's a real good talent. His goal showed that,” commented the Manchester United manager.
Ferguson believes that Obertan is a player that could feature more and more and but for a number of injuries he would have played more matches for Manchester United.
"It has been a problem for the lad. He had two or three last season and then picked up another in Texas this pre-season that kept him out for five or six weeks, but he is back now and, as he showed against
Bursaspor, he has fantastic talent," said Ferguson.
The Manchester United manager also had praise for Bebe who has started in a few games after a tough start with Manchester United.
"He is a good, young player who still has a lot to learn. He still needs a lot of coaching, but the raw talent is there.”
Ferguson believes that the player already has a number of qualities that could see him develop into a first choice player in the future.
"He is brave and quick, and for such a young player he is a good decision maker. The chances of him being able to realise his potential are very good," added the United manager.
