Manchester United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson vary of Benfica threat – UEFA Champions League Update
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes that his side have a lot to worry about, going into the game with Benfica on Wednesday night.
The English side are set to face the Portuguese club in their first game of the Champions League season and with the match taking place in Portugal, United are looking to come out of the game with at least a point.
At the same time, Ferguson feels that his side need to mentally prepare themselves for an exhilarating encounter, as opposed to taking the game lightly.
When talking about the game against Benfica, Ferguson is quoted to have said: “The opening game is the toughest for us. Benfica are always a handful and we always expect a difficult game. I watched a couple of their games away from home last season and they
were absolutely brilliant"
The manager then went on to admit that holding the midfield together was going to be the real test for the team, while selecting the right midfielders was going to put in him in a dilemma.
“I think the hardest part for us will be picking the midfield in that particular game. That area will be the biggest challenge.”
“They operate with three midfield players in there. They don’t play anyone off the front. They play three actual midfield players so we’ll have to have a look at that.”
However, Ferguson has gone on to drop a number of hints which suggest that he might just be tempted to use experience in the middle of the park for the trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
The manager seems to be more than likely to use http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 and Darren Fletcher for the Champions League game, given the two of them are now amongst the most experienced players at the club.
When talking about Fletcher and the possibility of him playing in the game, Ferguson is quoted to have said: "We’ve also got http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 last week. I think we’ll need to have more experience in
the game.”
So far United have had a brilliant start to their season in the Premier League. The Red Devils are currently on top of the Premier League table and are tied with Manchester City, with their goal difference giving them a boost above their rivals.
If United can managed to maintain this same form in the Champions League, then it is safe to say the team will end up on top in Portugal.
