Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson: United can overcome Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson feels that United have the momentum which will help them overcome their local rivals, Manchester City, in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.
The Red Devils seems to be enjoying their best form of the ongoing 2010-11 season as they have gone on to claim seven consecutive victories, their best streak of this term. By looking at their current form, Manchester United are looking strong favourites
to fulfill their dream of winning a treble this season, and Sir Alex Ferguson sees their winning mentality as the main factor ahead of the crucial matches.
Ferguson said, “We have got the momentum at the moment. We are winning games, which is important at this time of the season. The consistency of the team has been good and we are playing well. Our players have a great determination. I am really pleased with
that.”
Moreover, Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Manchester United’s huge experience of playing semifinals in the past could prove critical in the Wembley show-down against Manchester City.
It will be Manchester City’s first appearance in the semi-final of the FA Cup since 1981 when they faced Ipswich Town in the last four of the League Cup. While on the other side, Manchester United will be marking their 10th appearance in the FA semifinal
under Sir Alex Ferguson on Saturday. The Red Devils have an amazing record in the last-four of the League Cup, as they have made it through to the final of competition on eight occasions.
Moreover, it is the first time that a Manchester derby will be played outside its geographical location and Sir Alex Ferguson predicts that it would be one of the most exciting derby matches at London.
“There is an impact in terms of the emotional build-up to the game. The fact it is at Wembley makes it more of an occasion, simply because of the name. It is a derby game in London, which is unusual but we are ready for it,” added the Manchester United manager.
