Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson blames poor refereeing decisions for the Red Devils’ loss to Arsenal
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has gone on to blame the inconsistency shown by the referees in the match against Arsenal for their loss to the Gunners, which saw United lose by one goal to nil at the Emirates.
As a result of the loss, United have now slipped up in the league and should they lose to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 this coming weekend, they will be level on points with the Blues, meaning United’s once assured league title is not so certain anymore.
Two of the biggest turning points in the game were the two penalty claims that were waved away by the referee.
The first claim for the handball came when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380. However, for some magical reason both, the linesman, and the referee didn't spot the handball. Then just ten minutes from
time, Gael Clichy went on to stop http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 and drop him inside the penalty area, however, this incident was once again not spotted by either official.
When talking about these incidents, Ferguson is reported to have said, "I've seen the two incidents and the first one was definitely a flick of the hand from Vidic. I never saw it, neither did the linesman or the referee, but the second one was a clear penalty
kick"
"But the one at the end was obvious, even [Gael] Clichy put his hands up in horror," he added
However, the manager seemed to see the balancing prospect of the situation, "It balances out in that respect and I think it was a flick of the hand from Vidic, but it was difficult to see. [Robin] Van Persie was the only one to see it as only he complained."
It is surprising to see Ferguson criticizing the referee, despite the fact that according to most football experts, the referee was the best player that United had in the opening forty five minutes of the game. The referee was constantly in the wrong place
to break up Arsenal’s play and even prevented Arsenal from launching two counter attacks on United.
Nonetheless, following the loss to the Gunners, the pressure is now on the shoulders of the Red Devils, who are going into next weekend's highly contested match with Chelsea, knowing that only a win would see their title challenge get back on track. Should
Chelsea win, they would be level on points with United, and would be right back in the frame to win the Premier League, once again.
