Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson content to win only single trophy: EPL news
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he will be happy even if his team manages to win just one trophy in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
The Red Devils are still competing for a treble of trophies after leading the Premier League table with a five point cushion over second placed Arsenal. United have also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they will take on bitter rivals Manchester
City in April. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team has also qualified for the UEFA Champions’ League quarter finals and will face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 next month.
Ferguson’s team of 1998-99 season managed to win a treble, however, the 69-year-old will not mind if his team fails to win the treble and manages to win at least one trophy this time around.
Speaking to reporters in USA, Ferguson said:
“We must have a chance [of winning the Treble] but it’s a very difficult one. Going away from the greed of winning three trophies, if you can win one a year you have to be happy with that. If it turns out we win only one of those big trophies, I’ll be delighted.
I think it’s more difficult than it was in 1999. Back then we went through the last three months of the season without an injury. It’s amazing, that kind of luck, because at the moment we have so many injuries to defenders. But there’s a great desire to do
it [the treble]. Anyone given the opportunity to achieve that target would try to go for it.”
He applauded the character his players have shown in the ongoing campaign. They never gave up in any game this season no matter what the score-line looked like. Ferguson also revealed his transfer plans for the summer and said that he is planning to improve
on two or three positions and has full financial backing from the owners.
The Scott reiterated his stance of buying young professionals rather than experienced individuals and said that the club has been hugely successful doing this over the years and will continue doing so.
