Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson dismisses Chelsea’s penalty claims
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed Chelsea’s penalty claims in the dying minutes of the first leg of the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League at Stamford Bridge.
United went on to win the game 1-0 courtesy Wayne Rooney’s first half strike, which hands United a clear advantage as they go into the second leg with a crucial away goal.

the Chelsea player and not the ball.
However, Ferguson has a contrasting view on the scenario and he said, “To be honest with you, it looks as if the player made the most of it. If it was a penalty, it's the first decision we've had here in seven years, so I don't feel guilty. There’s plenty
of talk irrespective of penalty claims and dives and I thought the players were great.”
Soon after the penalty was turned down, the Blues appealed for another foul on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 but instead the referee showed a yellow card to the Spaniard for diving.
Ferguson went on to praise his team’s performance and was delighted to see the build-up move of the goal. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 combined brilliantly before the Welshman laid the ball for Rooney to tap in from close range.
“Wayne was in tremendous form and has given us a really great opportunity to get to the semi-final. His work rate and desire to play was marvelous. He got a lot of abuse tonight and late tackles on him but he got up and played which shows the courage of
the player. I think the whole team should take great credit,” said Sir Alex.
Despite a very slender lead in the first leg, United will be happy to score a vital away goal and the fact that the second leg will be played at their own backyard, the Red Devils are firm favourites to progress to the semi-finals.
