Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hopeful about Paul Scholes' future
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Paul Scholes will not bid farewell to the team after the UEFA Champions League final. Scholes is still undecided about his future and the final league game against Blackpool may turn out to be
his swansong.
Paul Scholes is only one of the two survivors of the class of 92, Ryan Giggs is the other one and Gary Neville has already announced his retirement. The right-back called it a day earlier this season when he finally gave in to injuries and lack of form.
Paul Scholes has been persisted by Ferguson and his teammates to carry on playing for one more season, but he has not made up his mind yet. He is still pondering on whether to follow Giggs’ example and play on for one more campaign or go with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447
and call it quits.
This means that when he steps out in United colours against Blackpool, it may be his last league appearance for the Red Devils, and it will be end of an era for him and the club. It will bring down the curtain on a player’s career that even Zinedine Zidane
said was one of the best of his generation.
David Gill the chief executive of the club has already resigned to the fact that Scholes may not be prepared to go on for one more season. However Sir Alex is still hopeful that his ginger-head prodigy may decide otherwise. Ferguson did offer him a year’s
extension 6 months ago but Scholes has not yet given a final word on that offer.
"I don't think it will be his last game," said the Scot.
"We have discussed it and I have encouraged him to stay on another year.
"We will talk again at the end of the season."
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Scholes has always been a player who shies away from publicity and never boasts about his own performances. Many believe that Scholes underestimates himself and that is why he is never overjoyed about his performances. Ferguson on the other hand values
his midfielder a lot more and believes that he still has another season left in him.
Paul Scholes played in his 21st league game of the season when he played against Blackburn, and following a draw earned his 10th league title with Manchester United.
Sir Alex has shown that he still has plenty of faith in his veteran midfielder, by giving him starts in big games like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Manchester City but final decision still lays with Scholes.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 will be the only surviving member from that
group of six next season.
