Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson not worried by Rio Ferdinand’s injury
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is not too concerned about veteran defender Rio Ferdinand’s hamstring injury, expressing confidence that Ferdinand would be fit in time for his team’s match against Arsenal on Monday.
The current Champions League season has been phenomenal for Manchester United, who have qualified for the first knockout round after topping Group C.
The draw for the top-sixteen stage will be held in the third week of December, and Manchester United will likely meet AC Milan or Lyon in the next stage of the event – avoiding Barcelona and Real Madrid, owing to United’s topping
Group C.
"It is always good to be first," said Ferguson. "That is important. We will avoid the bigger names, although they will come eventually."
Despite their match against Valencia yesterday ending in a draw, the Red Devils still managed to finish at the top of the table. Valencia were set to leapfrog over Manchester United on the points table thanks to a goal by Pablo
Hernandez, but Anderson was able to save the situation by levelling the score, ensuring Man Utd’s top spot in Group C.
Valencia finished second in Group C, three points behind Manchester United. Manager Unai Emery was satisfied with his team’s performance in spite of yesterday’s draw, but believed Valencia could have beaten United.
"A draw was a fair result but we came close to winning," said Emery after the match. "At 1-1 we had three decent chances to score a second. We competed well.”
He added that the match had been a good opportunity to judge his team’s capabilities and to evaluate Valencia players who will be important in upcoming games.
