Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson ready to take on Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League
Manchester United completed the formalities of seeing off Schalke 04 in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions league by completing a routine 4-1 victory over the German outfit in the second-leg last night.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darron-Gibson-c10368 and Valencia added the other two as Manchester United strolled to a victory last night.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 opened the scoring for United in the 26th minute and the lead was doubled just a few minutes later when a thunderous shot by Gibson found its way over the line from in between Manuel Neuer’s hands.
Jose Manuel Jurado got one goal back for the Germans but the aggregate score was still 4-1 and Schalke needed 4 more goals to qualify for the final. But it was never to be as a double by Anderson after half time made sure United
progress to the final of the Champions League for the 2nd time in three seasons.
Manchester United’s win sets up a tantalizing final clash with Barcelona on may the 28th at Wembley. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 progressed to the finals by beating arch rivals Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate. United and Barcelona both are
now aiming to join AC Milan as the only sides in the Champions League era to win the trophy three times.
It is a repeat of the 2009 final where Barcelona ran out clear winners with goals from Samuel Eto and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296.
But ahead of the game, the Manchester United manager has told his players that they do not have to fear the expansive football of Barcelona as they are equally good and can beat the Catalans.
"I don't think we should be going there lacking in confidence, We are playing a fantastic team but we can't be frightened out of our skins. Their form is there for everyone to see. Our job is to find a solution." Said Sir Alex after his side’s 6-1 aggregate
victory over Schalke last night.
Ahead of the clash, Sir Alex said that he will talk to his old friend, Jose Mourinho and take some tips on how to tackle the free flowing football of Barcelona.
"I speak to him [Mourinho] quite a lot, I spoke to him last week. I think we will depend on our own knowledge of Barcelona. It's not as if we haven't seen them before. We've watched them many times this season. It will be a fresh team on Sunday [against
Chelsea] and we will go for it." Added Sir Alex.
But before the final on the 28th of May, Manchester United have to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a match that will decide the fate of the Barclays Premier League title this year.
Manchester United currently lead Chelsea by three points and are level on goal difference but if they lose at home to Chelsea on Sunday, they will surrender their league position to Chelsea with just two games left in the season and
that is something Sir Alex will not want to happen.
