Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson rues penalty decision and missed chances: EPL News
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has insisted that his team were robbed a penalty in the 92nd minute of the stalemate draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday, 19 April.

Ferguson believes that Hernandez was clearly fouled by the former Manchester United defender, Danny Simpson in the stoppage time. However, the referee had differing views and he showed Hernandez a yellow card for simulation. Ferguson thinks that referee insulted his team by showing the Mexican striker a yellow card.

Talking to the reporters, Ferguson said, "It was a clear penalty and it’s an insult because he has booked him. The referee has had a good game tonight, the referee’s had an excellent game but he lets himself down by booking the player. If he’s not giving a penalty then fine but to book him is an insult. I watched it myself and there was definite contact."

Earlier in the game, Newcastle's striker, Peter Lovenkrands also had a huge shout for a penalty turned down by the referee after Anderson brought him down inside the penalty area. Being asked to comment on that decision, Ferguson said that he did not see the incident.

United dominated the proceedings in the game but could not find the killer touch to seal all three points. The result opens the door for Arsenal to capitalise on United’s slip and close the gap on league leaders.

United had several chances to take the lead but their wastefulness in-front of goal denied them.

Ryan Giggs had a wonderful opportunity to score in the 68th minute but the veteran mid-fielder splashed his shot from 10-yards. Ferguson rues the missed chances because had they been taken, United would have been in the driver’s seat to win the Premier League title.

"It was a great chance but actually the defender has just got a touch on it just before it came to him, just a fraction to put him off a little bit.” Ferguson added.

The Red Devils will now hope that Arsenal drops points in their next game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, 20 April.
