Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson rules out move for Wesley Sneijder
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has revealed that the Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder will not be joining the Red Devils at Old Trafford, despite the affirmative reports in the footballing circles.
Following the retirment of Paul Scholes, United have been linked with a number of midfielders, with Wesley Sneijder being the most prominent name on the list.
Ferguson has maintained a firm stance throughout the speculations that there is no possibility of Sneijder joining United. When asked about the possibility of the Nerazzurri attacker signing for United, the coach gave a blunt response and dismissed the idea
altogether, “Forget it. We are looking at some things, but I am not so sure Sneijder will be easy to get."
Netherlands coach Bert Van Marwijk, however, claims that Sneijder would be a perfect match for United. Since Samir Nasri and Luka Modric, the top choices for the midfield position, are speculated to stay with Arsenal and Tottenham respectively, Sneijder
remains the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes.
The United boss revealed to sources that, “There is no real interest at this moment in time in Wesley Sneijder''.
Most of Ferguson’s comments on the subject, though, imply that there might have been a discussion on Sneidjers induction into the team amongst the management. However, Ferguson has however stated that he has not been involved in the possible efforts to bring
Sneijder on board.
In the light of the efforts undertaken by Ferguson to acquire a strong team this summer, the United manager has revealed that he is confident the team will be able to bring home victories during the next season. Ferguson has gone on to admit that he needs
to reinforce his midfield. However, the manager authoritatively added that he would not be entering the market unless the right opportunity comes along.
According to some experts, Sneijder, despite his experience and skill, is an overpriced midfielder; this further puts him away from the usual United signings.
Nonetheless, there has been plenty of speculation about the deal. First team coach Rene Meulensteen has reportedly said that a deal worth 35 million is underway to get Sneijder on board. Also, claims about the involvement of sports goods giant, Nike, to
push the deal through have been made.
Reading between the lines, one can guess from Ferguson’s statements that he hasn’t completely written-off Sneijder. Chances of the Dutchman joining the 19-time English Premier League champions are still alive. Ferguson has been known to maintain an air of
secrecy while operating in the transfer market. Hence, despite his claims to put off a big name signing this summer, a surprise can be expected to be on its way to Old Trafford.
