Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson states defender Chris Smalling would not be forgotten - EPL news
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has assured that rookie defender Chris Smalling would not be forgotten despite http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 being fit again.
Englishman Ferdinand has been out for three months following a calf injury which kept the 32-year-old on the sidelines. In his absence, youngster Smalling did a decent job for the Red Devils at the centre-back position.
In Manchester United’s recent 1-0 victory against Chelsea in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Ferdinand was drafted straight back to the Red Devils' starting line-up replacing Smalling at the centre-back position.
The move to leave out Smalling was seen as a little bit harsh as the 21-year-old had put in some mature performances for his side in recent times.
Ferguson stated that the Ferdinand gaining fitness does not mean that Smalling is no longer part of his plans.
He said, “It was a terrible for me to explain to Chris Smalling that he wasn't playing given the way he has performed for us this season, He understood. He is part of the squad and he won't be forgotten.”
Ferdinand had an excellent game for the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge; he played his part in minimizing the Chelsea threat by silencing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, and no wonder, the United boss heaped praise for the Ex-England skipper.
He added, “But it's Rio's experience isn't it. He has such composure. He talks to players. When http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345 went to full-back he was talking all the time. He was phenomenal. He had done 10 days physical work before he started football training. People
might think it was a gamble. My only gamble was if he wasn't really up for it. That wasn't the case. He came to me. He said I am ready. It was great news.”
Manchester United certainly have their hands full as they are in contention to win the Barclays Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League titles. The Red Devils host Fulham in a Premier League encounter and then are up against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 for
the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
As the games are coming thick and fast for United, it would not be long before Smalling gets his call-up to the starting eleven.
