Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher targeting first team return after long absence
Manchester United midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Fletcher-c10361 admits that it will be hard for him to get back into the starting line-up after missing the action for almost two months.
Fletcher has recovered from a virus which kept him out of action since March 2011. The Scot has been a huge contributor for the Red Devils in the recent past but he fears that he may not find an immediate return to the first team.
The midfielder played for 45 minutes in the reserves team against Arsenal on Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Scot is itching to return to first team action but feels that the exceptional performances by some of his colleagues in the midfield role will make
him wait for his turn.
Despite the manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently stating that Fletcher will be the first name on his team sheet when he returns, the midfielder is taking nothing for granted and feels that he will have to fight for his place.
Talking to the reporters Fletcher said, “It was nice to hear that from the manager. But it'll be hard to get back into the team as the lads have been fantastic. The lads have been different class. Everyone in the squad has played a part. We're in a great
position with a month to go.”
“I want to give myself a chance to give the manager another option and play some small part in the Premier League or Champions League. All I can ask for is a sub appearance or starting the odd game. I just want to be involved but it's a squad game,” added
the versatile midfielder.
United will play a crucial Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday, May 1, 2011 and Fletcher’s decent record against the Gunners might force Ferguson to play him in the game.
The 27-year-old added that it was a bad virus and he expected it to last maximum for a week but it went for a longer period. With some important fixtures lining up in the near future, Ferguson will dearly hope that his prized asset returns to full fitness
at the earliest.
