Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs confident of United’s chances against Marseille
Manchester United midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985, is confident that his team will show its class to overcome Marseille in the second leg of the last 16 round of UEFA Champion’s League on Tuesday evening. Both teams played a goalless draw in the first leg at the
Stade Velodrome three weeks ago.
Marseille hold the advantage after they stopped United from scoring an important away goal. Fears of getting eliminated on away goal rule will haunt the Red Devils because they have experienced it against AS Monaco in the 1997/98 season.
Giggs admitted that his side played below par in the first leg and will be looking to gain some confidence after an overwhelming win against Arsenal recently. "At Old Trafford we back ourselves against anyone," said Giggs. "It is going to be tough. It is
the Champions League and 0-0 is always a sticky scoreline because we know if they score an away goal we will have to get two. What we need to do is get one and then pile on the goals to negate the possibility of an away one."
Giggs believes that the home conditions will be a huge plus for United as it will assist their style of play. Giggs further added that at one point of time in the game, Didier Deschamps will be forced to go on the front foot, which they failed to do in the
first leg. "Marseille were quite solid in the first leg but they didn't risk anything," said Giggs. "They were probably afraid to concede an away goal.”
Giggs revealed that the pitch in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 was a bit uneven and it did not help United’s style of passing. The 37-year-old praised his defenders for putting up a great show in the first leg and is hoping for a much better all-round effort this time around.
Manchester United are still struggling with a host of injury concerns, especially after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 joining others on the treatment table. However, United will be boosted by Nani’s speedy recovery from the injury he picked up against
