Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs regains fitness
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand made his reserves return last season following his freak knee injury in June which ruled him out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It finally seems that Giggs has fully recovered from injury when he played for a full 45 minutes in the reserves squad on Wednesday. It comes as great news for United, who had installed a comparatively less experienced Johnny Evans in the centre back position.
The former England captain would soon be returning to first team action, which is a huge boost for the Red Devils. Furthermore, injured right back Gary Neville and midfielder Anderson have also played time in the reserves and are also very close to making their first team return. As a result, Ryan Giggs claimed that the return of Ferdinand, Neville and Anderson in time will complete United’s squad.
Manchester United is off to a strong start to the season, winning two of their three fixtures so far. Manchester United thrashed West Ham and Newcastle 3-0 each in order to keep their 100% home record intact. The team was less fortunate in their away fixture against Fulham, where despite taking the lead on two occasions, the team failed to secure all three points. Fulham, under new manager Mark Hughes, sought a good comeback and were able to muster a draw.
With Ferdinand returning to the squad with partner Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United is expected to be rock solid in defence. Even though youngster Jonny Evans was an able protégé of the Serbian, yet Ferdinand would bring the much needed experience and class to the back line. Anderson and Gary Neville are also expected to be instrumental for the Red Devils in the midfield and defensive fields respectively. United suffered bitterly last November when they were without 4 of their first team centre backs. Midfielders Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher had to fill the void and become make shift defenders. This led to the team losing a lot of points during that time.
While talking to the club’s official website, Giggs claimed that the squad is now looking very strong. The player added that with Ferdinand and Anderson making their comebacks, Manchester United will be back to full strength. However, Gary Neville still needs to recover and return to the squad.
Manchester United has officially registered 24 players with the Barclays Premier league on 1st September, along with 47 others under the age of 21. However, only 7 of these would ever feature in the first team in the form of Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Macheda, Amos, Obertan and Bebe.
The 35-year-old winger claimed that the health of the team along with quality is a good sign for the team, even though it creates selection issues for Sir Alex Ferguson.
“It’s a headache for the boss, but one he would rather have than to be struggling for players,” adds Ryan. “We’ll need everyone because it’s a long season. The manager realises that,” claimed the Veteran midfielder.
Manchester United’s away game against Everton is round the corner and both teams will be looking to win this fixture. Everton had their worst start to the season, managing only one point from their opening 3 games. The team recently lost to Aston Villa and David Moyes would be looking to iron things out against United.
Last season, Everton dismantled an exhausted Red Devils side 3-0 at home and such a result for United would not be acceptable. Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to be firm in this years’ title race from the first fixture as he looks for title number 12 for himself and 19 for Manchester United overall.
