Manchester United midfielder hails Dimitar Berbatov
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has hailed Dimitar Berbatov after the striker's five-goal haul in a 7-1 English Premier League victory over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 27 November.
The match at Old Trafford was practically over by half-time after Berbatov struck twice, on both sides of a Ji-Sung Park goal. The former Tottenham Hotspur attacker then netted another three times in the second period, with his first second-half goal coming
less than a minute before Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha ('Nani') made it 5-0 for the home side. Congolese defender Christopher Samba netted the consolation for the visitors.
As a result of Berbatov's outstanding efforts against Blackburn (in a game that brought his first goals since a hat-trick in the 3-2 victory over Liverpool in September), Carrick has hailed the Bulgarian and insisted that his five-goal performance will be
the catalyst for a strong scoring run.
Carrick told Sky Sports, "Dimitar's performance was great. His goals were of the highest order. The one just after half-time when he played the one-twos is up there for the goal of the season. It was something special. We all know scoring five in
a game doesn't happen very often, so I am really pleased for him. I am sure he will go on to score many more for us."
The England international added that forward Wayne Rooney is still finding his sharpness after several weeks out of action due to an ankle injury. It was just Rooney's third game back in the first team and he failed to score, but Carrick tipped the 25-year-old
to be an important player for United this season.
"Wayne and Dimitar created problems all day long. Certainly, Wayne looked sharp, back to his old self. He is fit and hungry. It does make it easier when you play in a team performance as good as that. But we know there is more to come from him and he will
score big goals for us this season."
