It has been confirmed from Manchester United’s official website that United’s fixture against Blackpool has been cancelled owing to the bad weather conditions.
There were various discussions held between the Premier League officials, match officials and the Club representatives and it was decided that it would be up to the match referee to inspect the ground himself and decide upon the fate of the fixture.
Referee Peter Walton inspected Bloomfield Park today and was not convinced with the situation of the field. The referee took all the necessary steps to have a word with all the officials of the club along with the grounds-man and was not at all satisfied
with the condition. Owing to that, the referee feared it would be rather impossible to have the match there and has therefore called off the Premier League fixture. The travelling supporters have also been informed of the news and would be compensated for
the same fixture to be held at a later date.
Manchester United were really looking forward to playing the newly promoted club and may well lose their pole position, should Chelsea defeat Everton in their fixture. They currently have a two-point lead over the title holders, thanks a 7-1 thrashing of
Blackburn Rovers a week ago. Sir Alex Ferguson would want his players to keep focus on the coming games, as they would have to face Arsenal next week, without play time for their key forward Wayne Rooney. Rooney has come back following lengthy spell on the
sidelines and although he looked extremely sharp in the Blackburn game, he still needs more game time to get back to his destructive self.
No other premier league game has been affected by the bad weather as yet but things may change following a further downfall in temperature expected in the next 24 hours. The entire Scottish premier league fixtures have already been called off, which was
a huge blow for the fans and bettors, but there is nothing that can be done.
