Manchester United officially announce their 30 man UEFA Champions league squad
Manchester United have officially announced their 30 man squad for the UEFA Champions league. Two newest members of the squad, namely Chris Smalling and Javier Chicharito Hernandez have been named in the squad. The player was named among a group of strikers which include Wayne Rooney, Federico Macheda and Dimitar Berbatov.
However, United have not included new signing Bebe, Richie De Laet and the long injured midfielder Owen Hargreaves. These three can be signed in time for the knockout stage, should the Red Devils qualify.
The squad for the group stage reads as follows:
Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Amos*; Neville, Evra, J.Evans, Ferdinand, W.Brown, Smalling, Vidic, O'Shea, Fabio*, Rafael*, Gill*; Nani, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Valencia, Gibson, C.Evans*; Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Owen, Obertan, Macheda*.
Hernandez would be joining a long list of other native Mexicans who would be or have already been playing in Europe’s top competition. Hugo Sanchez, Nery Castillo, Giovani Dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Jonathan Dos Santos, Guillermo Franco, Hector Moreno, Ricardo Osorio, Pavel Pardo and Sergio Almaguer are only a few Mexicans who have featured in the UEFA Champions League. Legends Francsico Maza Rodriguez and Francisco Kikin Fonseca have been two greatest Mexican players who have featured in this elite tournament.
Manchester United have been grouped with some interesting teams in the UEFA Champions league group stages. United are in group C and will be playing against Rangers from Scotland, Bursaspor from Turkey and Valencia from Spain. Manchester United have thus avoided some very difficult teams and have a favourable group and are expected to top the group.
Many expect the new signing Javier Chicharito Hernandez to make a significant impact for the Red Devils. The player will be playing his first Champions league but has already scored goals against top European International sides. Hernandez has scored against France, Argentina and Spain internationally, while scoring in his debut match for United against Chelsea in the community shield.
The player has the ability to get behind the defence using his pace and perfect timings. This makes him lethal and his finishing ability is just outstanding. The striker has been a partner to Dimitar Berbatov in most situations, bringing the best of the Bulgarian. Hernandez has admitted that he is living a dream while playing for Red Devils and has aimed to give his all for the club and its fans. His pace and ability is expected to be crucial for Manchester United’s progress deep into the competition. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already made his intentions clear, stating that if he was given a choice to concentrate on either the domestic league or the Champions league, he would choose the European title.
United are currently tied up on 18 titles each with Liverpool in the Premier league and would be looking to make it nineteen in order to shut the mouth of all biased Liverpool supporters. United play Everton next away to Goodison Park in the Premier league while host Glasgow Rangers at Old Trafford on 13th September.
