Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez feels Champions League tie with Chelsea will be tough
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has admitted that their match against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal is going to be a tough one.
Hernandez, who is playing his first-ever UEFA Champions League said, “We play in the same league and it is going to be tough. Stamford Bridge is a nice stadium and it makes it a little bit like a league game. But if there is an advantage, we are at home
in the second game.”
Both Manchester United and Chelsea finished as the leaders of their respective Champions League groups in the ongoing 2010-11 season. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were drawn against French side Marseille and after enduring a goalless away draw, United managed
to qualify for the last eight by winning the home leg 2-1.
On the other hand, Chelsea played their knockout round match against Danish Champions FC Copenhagen and after a 2-0 win in the away leg, the Blues easily made it through to the quarterfinals.
The first leg of this tie will be played on 6 April, 2011 at Stamford Bridge and the return leg will take place at Old Trafford a week later.
It will be a replay of the UEFA Champions League 2008 final which Manchester United won on penalties at Moscow and deprived Chelsea from winning their first-ever European title.
Hernandez, who has scored his first-ever goal in English football against Chelsea, is predicting that it would be quite difficult for Manchester United to beat Ancelotti’s men but claims that his team has the advantage of playing the second leg at Old Trafford.
Javier Hernandez, who joined Manchester United just before the start of the FIFA World Cup 2010, has been exceptional in his debut season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. The Mexican has already scored 16 goals and out of that, 3 came in the Champions League. The 22-year-old
helped United to qualify for the next round by scoring twice against Marseille and he believes that the Champions League suits his game.
He added, “It probably does, I am trying to think game by game and not to look too far in the future. But I am very happy with the way things are going in the Champions League and I want to keep it like that.”
It would be an exciting two matches between the two English footballing giants. However, Manchester United’s recent stats away against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 are not that impressive. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have failed to win at Stamford Bridge since 2002. Moreover, the
Blues have also recently defeated Manchester United in the Premier League 2-1 at London.
