Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney handed two-match ban by Football Association – EPL news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 has been handed a two-match ban by the Football Association after he was found guilty of using abusive language following their 4-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday.
The hotheaded striker used indecent language in front of television cameras after completing his hat-trick against the Hammers on 2 April, 2011.
The suspension means that Rooney would miss United’s next Premier League match against Fulham and a crunch derby clash against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Red Devils management are enraged by the decision and are looking to challenge the Football Association in order to have the player available for the important FA cup semi-final at Wembley. However, if Manchester United decide to appeal against the ban
and their appeal fails, then the ban would be extended from two matches to three.
The Red Devils’ legal team is viewing the case from all angles in order to find out the best way to challenge the punishment. It is reported that United’s management has accepted the charges brought forward by the Football Association but disagree with the
length of ban and is trying to have it reduced.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will feel that the suspension to Rooney has come at the worst possible time for the Red Devils as they are on the verge of repeating their 1999 heroics of completing a treble when they won the Barclays Premier League, FA
Cup and UEFA Champions League.
Former Arsenal player Ian Wright has stated that Rooney’s behaviour was inappropriate and has advised him to take anger-management sessions in order to control himself better on and off the football pitch.
Rooney’s absence will surely be a dent to United’s hopes of landing a trophy or two at end of the current 2010-11 season as the Red Devils face a hectic schedule of matches ahead.
