Manchester United surrender lead while Arsenal win
Manchester United once again surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.
Javier Hernandez gave United the lead after tapping in from close-range. Nani doubled the lead for United and it looked like being a routine win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, but West Brom, who beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates in their last game, produced a great comeback. Patrice Evra put through his own net and Somen Tchoyi scored after a rare error from United ‘keeper Edwin van der Sar. West Brom could have knicked all three points at the end as they refused to sit back on what they had, but they had to settle for a well-deserved point.
Arsenal beat Birmingham City 2-1 at the Emirates to go second in the table and four points behind leaders Chelsea, who play later on this evening. Birmingham went in front through Nikola Zigic’s header, but a debatable penalty scored by Samir Nasri and another home goal for Marouane Chamakh gave Arsenal the win when for most of the game it was one-way traffic. Jack Wilshire received a red card for Arsenal late on as well.
Newcastle came from two goals down to grab a point against Wigan. Charles N’Zogbia scored twice to put Wigan 2-0 up, but Shola Ameobi pulled a goal back with 18 minutes left to play. All looked lost for Newcastle when they had a goal disallowed, but Fabricio Coloccini scored in the fourth minute of injury time to take a point for their efforts.
Tottenham came from a goal down to beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage. Diomansy Kamara put the home side in front, but Roman Pavlyuchenko drew Tottenham level. They scored the winner through Tom Huddlestone. The goal was first ruled out for offside, but was then eventually given.
Wolves and West Ham played out a 1-1 draw at Molineux. Ryan Jarvis scored for Wolves on 30 minutes after West Ham ‘keeper Rob Green’s poor punch. A penalty from Mark Noble on 53 minutes gave them a point.
Bolton had to wait until the second minute of injury time to take three points against Stoke. Lee Chung-Yong gave Bolton the lead, but Rory Delap popped up with a rare goal to equalise. Ivan Klasnic scored after firing in a shot at the end, but then turned from hero to villain as he picked up a red card.
