Manchester United to keep hold of Michael Owen as Craig Bellamy gives up the Welsh national team captaincy
Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has squashed reports that have suggested recently that the Red Devils are set to part ways with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 due to his lack of fitness. Owen has been out with a hamstring injury for United lately and is yet
to make his comeback to full match fitness for the former English champions. Ferguson signed Owen last season in the summer of 2009 to add some experience to the Manchester United striking department.
Owen’s most memorable moment in a Manchester United shirt came when he netted a last minute winner at Old Trafford against United’s staunchest rivals, Manchester City in the 2009-2010 season. Ferguson spoke to the British press recently as he said, “He (Michael
Owen) is looking really good. He has trained really well this week. People may have forgotten just what a good player Michael is. He's had a nightmare time with a bad hamstring injury but now he deserves a change of luck.”
Sir Alex went onto say, "If Michael can stay fit, I believe he has an important part to play for the club between now and the end of the season; there's no doubt about that. He still has a great engine. There has never been a problem with him since he came
to United. He is great to have around. He conducts himself well and is a great example to the younger players.”
Manchester United will be hoping that Owen can make a return to full fitness as soon as possible as their hectic schedule of matches in the English Premier League piles up. On the other hand, Cardiff City’s on-loan striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 has come out in
the media and revealed that he has given up his post as the Welsh national team’s captain. Craig revealed this after he netted a crucial goal in Cardiff’s important two goal win over Coventry in the Championship.
Bellamy whose parent club is Manchester City said in his press conference, "I'm not going to be able to play every game for Wales so I feel it would be best to give the armband to someone who will be there for every game. I feel, with the young squad we
have, it would be best. Being captain for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 was great. It's a huge honour. I will get right behind the next person who does it. I've always said I'll never retire but I have to be clever about which games I play and which games I can't."
