Manchester United turn to Italian number one
It is now no secret that Manchester United are looking to bring in a new keeper as soon as possible. The team was reported to have been in the market, looking to sign a number of keepers, but the team was looking to sign some younger players who would prove
to be essential to the team’s success, in the future.
However it has now been reported that Manchester United have changed their minds about signing a younger more inexperienced player and are looking to pursue the Italian living legend, Gianluigi Buffon instead. The team is expected to make a move for the
player as early as next January, with Edwin Van der Sar looking to hang up his boots sooner rather than later.
Alex Ferguson who is the main man at Old Trafford, is more than aware of the fact, that a good goal keeper can be the pivotal figure in the side, to determine whether the team is going to be successful or perform miserably. In the past, Old Trafford has
had some of the best and some of the worst keepers pass through their ranks. They have had keeper greats like Peter Schmeichel and some awful ones like Massimo Taibi.
Buffon is currently thirty two years old, still has more than a couple of seasons left in him. This is because unlike outfield players, keepers can go on to play till they are around forty years old. Buffon is also currently in his sixteenth season in the
Italian Serie A, which means the player has more than enough experience to come into the side and continue to perform at the very best levels. The keeper however has indicated on numerous occasions that he wishes to have at least one more challenge, before
he finally calls it quits on playing football for a living. He has also almost always been voted to be the best keeper in the world
Juventus are currently in the seventh position in the Italian league and are sooner or later going to be running into financial troubles of some sort. Keeping this in mind, if the team does receive a significant offer for their star player, they might not
be left with any choice other than to accept it.
In the past Buffon had gone as far as to say that he would almost never move to the Premier League, since his heart belongs to the Italian Serie A. However a move to a team like Manchester United, can change almost any ones prospective on what they had said
in the past. Despite not being at their top game at the current moment in time, United are still regarded to be one of the best if not the best team in England and any player would find it to be a dream come true, if they were to move to Old Trafford.
It is now down to whether or not Buffon wishes to leave Juventus and start off from scratch, in a country where he has never played before. He might have some problems adjusting to life in the Premier League, but considering how professional he is, he is
bound not to run into any problems if he does decide to make the move.
However all of that being said, it is now going to be a long wait till next summer’s to see whether or not that move goes down.
