Manchester United v Crawley Town: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anders-Lindegaard-c5553 says United were not good enough
Manchester United’s rookie goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has admitted that the Red Devils put in a below-par performance against Crawley Town.
The two sides went head to head for the FA Cup fifth round encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday night, which United won 1-0.
Speaking after the match, Lindegaard said, “Crawley did a great job. It's a cup match and I've heard from the manager in the last few days that in the FA Cup anything can happen. This match was evidence of that. With a bit more luck, Crawley could have scored.”
Anders Lindegaard was one of the many second string Manchester United players who featured in the FA Cup fifth round clash. The goalkeeper saw his side put in a dismal performance and he conceded that the Red Devils need to improve.
He added that they did not do well and should aim for improved performances in the rest of the on-going 2010-11 season.
The Manchester United goalkeeper was somewhat pleased with his own performance though. Lindegaard expressed his delight at being given the chance to prove his worth in the FA Cup.
Lindegaard said, “It felt very good. You ask yourself how you will do, and I felt good. I felt confident. I felt I was in the right mindset. So it was a good experience. It was the same against Southampton, it's a big match. It may be against a lower division
team but it gives you a taste for more. I'm not here to pick my nose. I'm here because I want to play.”
Crawley Town almost pulled off the biggest upset in FA Cup history against the Red Devils. The visitors gave the Premier League leaders a real run for their money.
In the end, Wes Brown’s second-half goal was all that proved to be the difference between the two teams on the night. If Richard Brodie’s shot had gone in, situation could have been very different at Old Trafford.
