Manchester United versus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 – First half review: English Premier League (Part 2)
Following Manchester United’s first minute strike against Chelsea at Old Trafford through Javier Hernandez, the home side continued their dominance well into the second half.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s team almost added to their one goal advantage in the 10th minute when Park Ji Sung linked up with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area.
The Welsh man played a lofted ball towards the former South Korean national team captain. In return, Park decided to play in Hernandez on the far post inside Chelsea’s penalty area.
Unluckily for the home side, Hernandez was unable to get a touch on the pass as the ball went out of play for a goal kick.
In the 12th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994 was booked by the referee for an extremely cynical challenge on Wayne Rooney. Chelsea’s right back got too close to the Englishman as Rooney used his body to nick the ball away from the Serbian defender.
Ivanovic then brought the ex-Everton man down to the ground and then duly accepted his punishment as he became the first player in the match to see the yellow card.
In the 15th minute, Manchester United was on the front foot again. This time Fabio da Silva nicked the ball off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838.
The Frenchman was caught in possession by the Brazilian who played the ball towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345. Manchester United’s winger found himself in plenty of space but rather than carrying the ball up field, he passed it to Wayne Rooney.
The Englishman didn’t need an invitation to shoot at Chelsea’s goal once again but this time he failed to trouble the nervous http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 as the score line remained at one nil at Old Trafford.
In the 24th minute, Park Ji Sung found himself in space just outside the Chelsea penalty area. The South Korean midfielder nipped past Ivanovic before firing a venomous shot at Petr Cech’s goal.
Chelsea’s veteran shot stopper was on hand to palm the ball away for a Manchester United corner kick.
It was Ryan Giggs who took the set piece for the home side and his delivery into the box was met with force by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550 whose header sailed past Petr Cech as the Red Devils’ second goal took the score line to 2-0.
In the 26th minute, Chelsea almost got their equalizing goal as Solomon Kalou’s header was expertly tipped away by Edwin Van der Sar.
The Dutchman reacted in time to put the ball over his cross bar as Kalou’s header looked destined for the back of Manchester United’s goal.
Despite dominating possession from the 30th minute onwards, Chelsea failed to create any further goal scoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes of the encounter.
Thus the first half came to an end with Manchester United in the lead. The home team’s first goal came through Javier Hernanexdez in the 36th second and then Nemanja Vidic’s header added to their advantage in the 24th minute.
United dominated the proceedings in the first half as they rarely allowed Chelsea any time and space on the ball in the midfield region. Ryan Giggs and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736’s distribution from the traditional
number 10 role was immaculate.
