Manchester United versus Chelsea – Player ratings for the Red Devils: English Premier League (Part 3)
Following our player ratings for Manchester United’s back line in the first part and their midfield four in the second part, it is now time to elaborate on Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez’s performances against Chelsea at Old
Trafford on 8th May, 2011.
Wayne Rooney
Long gone are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736’s troubles which emerged at the start of the 2010-2011 Premier League season. It seemed to defy belief back then that Rooney wanted to part ways with Manchester United as he was unhappy with the direction
of the club. Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledged this in a hurried press conference but since then there has been a turnaround at Old Trafford.
Turn around in form and fortune as well. Rooney changed his mind and decided to stay at Manchester United and upon returning from his ankle injury near the end of November 2010, the Englishman has been firing on all cylinders.
However it is in the UEFA Champions League that Rooney has actually excelled in his new role just behind Javier Hernandez. Now a part of one of the most incisive striking partnerships in modern football, Rooney showed once more
why he is such a prized asset at United when he led the Red Devils to a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford. Rooney once again dropped deep to help out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 in defence.
When Manchester United had the possession of the ball, the ex-Everton man played an integral part in switching the play out-wide towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345 and then also pulling out towards the left hand side whenever Park Ji Sung
drifted in-field to trouble http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994.
The only down side to Rooney’s performance against Chelsea was the fact that he squandered a couple of clear cut goal scoring opportunities. Regardless, the Manchester United striker gave a performance which will be one for the
record books as United drew closer to their 19th Premier League title. Rating: 9.5/10
Javier Hernandez
When the little pea came to Manchester United before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he was an unknown quantity. He was seen as yet another Sir Alex Ferguson signing but questions remained whether he will be a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 type hit
or Bebe type flop? Now after Manchester United’s 2-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Old Trafford in their title deciding encounter, the Mexican striker has gained praise which has turned him into a superstar amongst the Red Devils’ faithful.
The most striking thing about Hernandez in the 2010-2011 Premier League season has been his off-the-ball movement. Whilst most of his goals have come in the shape of tap-ins and close ranged headers, “Chicharito” as Hernandez is
more commonly known, has excelled due to his pace and the uncanny ability to act as a predator inside the opposition’s penalty area.
Hernandez’s first goal against Chelsea was a trademark strike that can be compared to numerous Old Trafford goals scored by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruud-van-Nistelrooy-c31966. Shortly after his first goal, the Mexican starlet had another glorious chance as Park
Ji Sung played him in but this time the young goal-scorer failed to connect with his team-mates pass.
Regardless, Javier Hernandez troubled Chelsea’s defence throughout the 90 minutes at Old Trafford, something that will not only please Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson but also the United faithful. Rating: 8.5/10
