Manchester United versus Chelsea – Second half review: English Premier League (Part 2)
Despite Chelsea’s lackluster start to the second half, the away side pulled a goal back against Manchester United in the 68th minute.
Chelsea’s half time substitute, Ramirez, crossed the ball towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097. The ball was expertly steered past Edwin Van der Sar by the Englishman as the score line reached 2-1 at Old Trafford.
With the deficit down to just a single goal, Chelsea stepped up their tempo following Lampard’s first goal of the match.
The Blues started to dominate possession of the ball and in doing so they pushed Manchester United into a defensive mindset. However, in doing so Carlo Ancelotti’s side left themselves wide open on the counter attack.
This was evident in the 70th minute when Javier Hernandez was sent racing through on goal by Antonio Valencia.
The Mexican striker unselfishly squared the ball towards Wayne Rooney whose first time shot was blocked on the goal line by Alex whose heroics saved Chelsea’s blushes.

The home crowd grew nervous at the end as Chelsea closed in for an equalizer but Manchester United defended resolutely.
In the 83rd minute, Ryan Giggs was booked by the referee for time wasting but the Welshman tried to explain his actions. However Howard Webb took no notice of his protests.

In the 87th minute, Manchester United had a glorious opportunity to add to their one goal advantage as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 down the right hand side before whipping in a thunderous cross towards Javier Hernandez.
The Mexican striker was unable to head the ball into the back of the Chelsea net despite the fact that he made clean contact with the ball.
In the 90th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 just outside the Manchester United penalty area. It was a harsh booking for the Ivorian striker who appealed his innocence but to no avail.
Nonetheless, the match came to an end shortly after with a Manchester United win.
With their victory over Chelsea, Manchester United increased their lead at the top of the Premier League table to six points with just two games left in the Premier League season.
Chelsea, who needed a win to stay in the title race, was disappointed on the day as Ferguson’s men gained all three points at the Theatre of Dreams in Manchester.
