Manchester United vs Chelsea FC: Roman Abramovich to sack Carlo Ancelotti after UEFA Champions League defeat – Part 1
The second-leg of the UEFA Champions League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea, played at Old Trafford on Tuesday, April 12, was a great spectacle.
Both teams played good attacking football and it won’t be wrong to say it lived up to the hype. But unfortunately the result has put Ancelloti’s future up in the air. He has been under pressure because of Chelsea’s form in the league, but the UEFA Champions
League has always been a dream for the Stamford Bridge outfit. A win here would have eased off some of the pressure, unfortunately for Ancelloti it was not to be.
The biggest talking point during the game was Ancelloti’s decision to drop Drogba to the bench in favor of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, a man who has failed to score for Chelsea since his €50m in January. Torres hasn’t been in good form for over a year and it just seemed
strange that Drogba didn’t start, in what was probably Chelsea's most crucial match under the current circumstances.
The difference between the two sides over the two legs was that United were playing more as a team. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 fought hard but some of the individual performances weren't up to the mark. The major difference was the desire to fight for each other.
United had a clear game plan and everyone was carrying out their respective duties well; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 and Evra combined well on the left flank, Park running tirelessly, Rooney and Giggs dictating the game from the middle, Chelsea lacked such a team effort. United’s
two strikers were linking up so well, whereas Torres and Drogba hardly exchanged a single pass during the entire first leg.
This defeat effectively ends Chelsea’s season. The Blues are out of the FA cup, the UEFA Champions League, whereas in the Premier League it would take a miracle for Chelsea to overcome United in the league table. What do they have to look forward to now?
Considering the current situation, what Chelsea need is to secure Champions League football and try to find the perfect system for Torres. Chelsea have initiated a rebuilding process after letting the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Deco-c10735, Ballack and Belleti to leave at the start
of the season. They haven’t won anything this season but they really need to find the right mix before the start of the next season otherwise we might see much of the same from Chelsea.
Ancelloti needs to decide right now about how he sees the team after the rebuilding. If he plans to fit Drogba and Torres together, then he should start playing them together on a regular basis so that they get used to each other’s game. They aren’t fighting
for any titles now so they might as well prepare for next season.
