Manchester United vs Chelsea FC: Roman Abramovich to sack Carlo Ancelotti after UEFA Champions League defeat – Part 2
The UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester United highlights Chelsea’s ever growing problems as they just haven’t been themselves for most of the season. A team that so convincingly won the double last season looks just a shadow of their former self this season and it's hard to understand how everything could go so wrong so quickly for Chelsea.
Chelsea decided to offload some of its ageing squad members at the start of the season in favor of youth, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542. While the latter has proved to be an instant success, Torres has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have the strongest squad in the league. The squad has quality and depth, but still they have struggled this season and now there is plenty of speculation about Ancelloti’s future. The Italian did take on the task of rebuilding the squad, however, so far he has struggled with it.
According to some, Roman Abramovich’s obsession with the UEFA Champions League might have put the team and manager under pressure. On numerous occasions they have reached the semi finals in recent history, but have failed to win the most coveted trophy in club football. Will this obsession lead to the sacking of Ancelloti?
Ancelloti did an exceptional job in his first season but now everything is going wrong. The Italian though, has a good CV and an exceptional record in the Champions league, which he won with Milan. And this seems to be the only apparent reason why Abramovich might decide against sacking him, although Chelsea’s showing against United did nothing to help his cause.
If Abramovich decides to get rid of Ancelloti and a new manager comes in, he’ll try to enforce his own principles which would again take some time. So this is a big decision for Abramovich, the team, and the Chelsea supporters.
Continuity has proved to be the key to United’s success. Chelsea on the other hand, have been guilty of changing managers frequently over the last few years. Abramovich must have learned by now that money can’t always buy you success, and sticking to a manager might be the answer. But sometimes a change of the man-in-charge can be the best decision so Abramovich has plenty to think about.
