Manchester United vs. Chelsea: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 5
The match of the weekend has to be the clash of two teams who have battled it out for the Barclays Premier League crown over the past few seasons, Manchester United and Chelsea.
With both teams unbeaten in the league and putting in strong performances on a regular basis, it is a match every football fan should be looking forward to.
Overview
Manchester United have been in devastating form with striker Wayne Rooney scoring goals for fun. Routing Arsenal 8-2 and embarrassing Gary Cahill and his Bolton Wanderers side, the Red Devils have not shown any mercy towards their opponents.
It seems every attacking player, as well as their defenders have been on fire, both on the pitch and in the Fantasy Premier League points charts.
Chelsea have also been solid, though not as much as United when it comes to points earned by players for their managers. Fernando Torres has disappointed and the Blues just have not been able to match United in terms of sheer dominance.
We feel that Manchester United’s attacking prowess will be a tad too much for Chelsea to handle, who still look a little shaky under the regime of their new manager, Andrea Villas Boas.
Goalkeepers
With two quality goalkeepers to choose from, it is a tough decision. However, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has only recently returned from injury and a big game like this one, without much time to settle back in, is a bit of a gamble for mangers who are
considering picking him.
On the other hand, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been a point scoring machine, and based on form, should be everyone’s choice for the match.
Manchester United fans will have their faith in him, but the trick to the Fantasy Premier League is not to let one’s emotions take the place of objectivity.
It is best to find a goalkeeper who will be going against weaker opposition and is sure to keep a clean sheet.
Defenders
Phil Jones, the Manchester United centre-half, has been solid at the back and creative when making runs forward. Also, sticking to Bettor.com’s ‘wing back is best’ philosophy, Patrice Evra is a player everyone should be considering.
Chelsea also do not have a shortage of attacking minded defenders, with Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic both having a knack of either scoring in big games or setting up the goals.
We would recommend Patrice Evra if anyone is looking for a defender to have in their sides on the basis of this match.
Midfielders
Another tough choice here as both sides are loaded with talent in the middle of the park. Raul Meireles made an instant impact on his Chelsea debut and Juan Mata has impressed as well. However, Frank Lampard still leads when it comes to overall points earned
for the Blues.
Manchester United have Luis Nani and Ashley Young, both firing on all cylinders and in devastating form.
Juan Mata and Ashley Young should be two choices managers should limit themselves to, as Mata has the creative flair and Young will most likely dominate Chelsea wing-back, Jose Bosingwa.
Strikers
Fernando Torres has a nasty habit of scoring against Manchester United, even when he is injured and Wayne Rooney is in the form of his life. Without going into too much detail, Rooney would be a safer bet, but if one likes to take the risk Torres may just
shine this weekend.
Our Picks: Going against the current trend we would recommend Fernando Torres. It is a big risk, but it may just be the match the Spaniard will be looking for to kickstart his campaign. Though for those who want be more on the safe side,
Wayne Rooney is a perfect replacement as well.
