Manchester United vs. Chelsea: Sir Alex Ferguson seeking fans' support in the UEFA Champions League
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has backed the Old Trafford fans to make the difference in the second-leg of the quarter-final of UEFA Champions League against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
United come into this game with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at Stamford Bridge last week. Wayne Rooney’s 24th minute strike in the game is the difference between the two sides and Ferguson believes that the roars from the Old Trafford crowd
can guide United to glory, as they have done it in the past too.
Ferguson said while speaking to the media, "We have a fantastic home record overall, and we look to our supporters to create another of those special European nights. When we get to the nitty-gritty stage of a competition, our fans always respond. The volume
from the crowd goes up, and all the players will tell you that it helps enormously."
"So, once again, I ask you to make Old Trafford a cauldron of noise this evening, I know we take you on a rollercoaster of emotion sometimes, and occasionally leave it late to pull something out of a game..But you know we never give in. It's a quality built
into our genes and it's part of United's history which is important," added the United manager.
Ferguson praised the fans for a wonderful contribution even at Chelsea’s home, Stamford Bridge, in the first leg. According to the manager, it was the best support from United’s away fans he has ever seen in his career. The Scot said that the challenge has
been set for the fans and they will surely not let them down.
Ferguson expects a stern test from Chelsea as his team will come out to protect a slender lead in the second-leg clash.
The 69-year-old believes Chelsea is a formidable side with a very intelligent manager, Carlo Ancelotti. He believes that the two-sides are evenly matched and there is nothing to choose between them.
Ferguson predicted the two teams to produce a cracking match which would reflect the standards of the English Premier League.
