Manchester United vs. Norwich City: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 7
The UEFA Champions League may be the most coveted prize in Europe, which is why every team knows that if they wish to prove themselves as the best in the continent, then that is the platform to do so, however, the Barclays Premier League has its own charm
and importance as well.
With Champions League matches over, it is now time to return to the Barclays Premier League for another weekend of intense action with two teams with very different ambitions.
Overview
Manchester United found themselves squandering a two-goal lead to their French opposition and were fortunate to come away with a point when Ashley Young headed the ball home with minutes to spare.
On the other hand, Norwich City find themselves sitting pretty in mid-table, a position they will hope to maintain until the end of the season. Many would have written the away side’s chances off by now, however, there are a few things one should take into
consideration before coming to that conclusion.
Firstly, Manchester United has drawn their previous two games and Norwich have found a bit of form themselves.
At the same time though, the first United draw was away at Stoke City and the second one was in the Champions League. Knowing Sir Alex Ferguson, his side will not make the same mistake twice, especially at home.
Goal Keeper
David de Gea has found himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League points table for Goal Keepers this season and put in some fine performances. However, we are weary of including him in our side as he has been leaking goals in recent matches.
If managers do have him in their sides, then we see no problem with keeping him, yet managers who are looking for a keeper should perhaps divert their attention to Joe Hart of Manchester City.
Defenders
Norwich look unlikely to hold on to a clean sheet, however, Manchester United look like a team who will be working to sort out their recent defensive mishaps during the weekend.
Manchester United wing back, Patrice Evra may be slightly pricey at 7-million; however, his performances are consistent when it comes to earning points.
A more inexpensive option would be everyone’s new favourite, Phil Jones, who at 5.8-million has earned a reputation for himself as a point scoring machine!
Midfielders
The fact of the matter is that Manchester United has two of the league’s most in-form wingers and it is a case of picking the right one on the right day.
Ashley Young is in fine form; earning 45 points since the start of the season. A run which has seen his transfer value reach 10.4-million. On the other hand, Luis Nani has been a revelation this season, bagging just as many points and cost 0.3-million less
than his English counterpart.
Flipping a coin between the two would not be a bad idea here.
Strikers
Norwich city lack the bite up-front to trouble the United back four but on the other end of the pitch is one of the League’s most lethal strikers, who has been scoring goals for fun: Wayne Rooney.
Sadly, there is a catch and that is the fact that the striker is out injured with a hamstring injury. Whether Sir Alex Ferguson will opt to play up front is anyone’s guess.
Our picks: Phil Jones is a good option for managers looking to add a bit of Manchester United to their sides and we opt for Luis Nani over Ashley Young, as the former’s form in the League has been outstanding.
