Manchester United winger Nani backs Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to leave FC Porto for Chelsea
Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss Andre Villas-Boas had made the right choice by leaving the Portuguese giants to take over the managers’ post at Chelsea.
The 33-year-old manager replaces Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, after leading FC Porto to an extremely successful season, securing four trophies, including the Primeira League and the UEFA Europa League.
He now arrives at the London side to prove his managerial http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Nani said in an interview:
“Villas-Boas did well to trade the Portuguese League for the Premier League. Chelsea is an excellent club, it is fair to try his luck because it is always a dream http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
I understand Villas-Boas, it is always a difficult decision to leave the club who are in your heart.”
The Blues were initially linked with a host of managers’ to replace Ancelotti, with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Marco van Basten, Pep Guardiola, Marcello Lippi and Harry Redknapp all linked with taking the hot-seat at the Bridge.
In the end however, Hiddink emerged as the favourite, having previously managed the Blues as a caretaker manager in the 2008-2009 season. He had done really well with an out of form side, leading them to an FA Cup trophy, which is why he was the main contender for the job.
Hiddink was contracted to the Turkish national side and had a release clause of £4 million, which Chelsea were reportedly willing to pay. However, Hiddink claimed he did not want to dishonour his contract with the Turkish side and continued on with existing post.
In a turn of events the Blues turned to the much younger and relatively less experiences Villas-Boas instead. He had a release clause of £13.2 million, which the Blues paid, in addition to a £4.4 million per year salary.
Nani was confident that while Villas-Boas had to make a hard decision leaving his home-town club for Chelsea, he had made the right choice in terms of his career. Villas-Boas will be accompanying the Blues to their upcoming Tour of Asia before the new season begins in August.
