Manchester United’s Anderson extends his stay at Old Trafford till 2015
Manchester United’s central attacking midfielder Anderson has signed a new contract that will keep him with the Red Devils until 2015.
It hasn’t been a steady start for the number 8, however. Bearing in mind the £17 million price tag, the midfielder was expected to deliver from day 1. The Brazilian has struggled for not only form but fitness which has seen him
fall down the pecking order in Sir Alex Ferguson’s line-up in the past.
The injury to Paul Scholes could be argued as a blessing in disguise as it enabled the 22-year-old to make his mark – an opportunity that he took with both hands – and since then, the former Porto player has grown from strength
to strength.
It is no secret that a couple of clubs had shown interest in the youngster after reports of a falling out with the manager. However, after the contract extension - which many felt was deserved after his little cameo this season
– here is what the midfielder had to say:
“This is the best club to be at and I would like to thank everyone for the great support I have received over the years. I am looking forward to winning many more trophies with this club and I am so pleased to have signed a new
contract.”
After the Wayne Rooney saga earlier on this season, it has been observed that Ferguson has the knack of finding peace in the midst of ‘speculated’ chaos. Not only was the Scottish genius able to retain the England striker, he has
now proven that with proper diplomacy and faith, a player that many believed would never play in a Manchester United shirt is turning fast into a prospect for the season.
Ferguson commented that Anderson had all the makings of being a ‘really top player’ at the Theatre of Dreams. The comments seem justified as the left footer looks to be a changed player this term. He looks far more comfortable
with possession, has the pace and stamina to track back, help his defence, and the ability to come up with the odd goal – The recent game against Valencia in the Champions League being a fitting example.
For the club in general, things couldn’t be better as they find themselves sitting pretty at the top with a game in hand (their match against Blackpool was called off). Their performance in the game against their old rivals, Arsenal,
showed the grit and determination the team possesses – The Red Devils being the only team in the league to be unbeaten this season.
The next trip for Ferguson’s side sees them head to Stamford Bridge. With Frank Lampard back from injury and in first-team contention, Anderson might be in store to face his toughest challenge yet.
