Manchester United’s Michael Carrick not concerned by Newcastle slip-up: EPL news
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has warned his Barclays Premier League title rivals that the Red Devils will not throw away their advantage at the summit of the standings. The England international’s comments come just after United’s disappointing draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday, 19th April.
The Red Devils had a great chance to break away from the chasing pack when they took on the Magpies, especially since Arsenal had earlier dropped two points against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at the Emirates Stadium. However, a goalless draw at Tyneside ensured that the title race could still go down to the wire.
It was a disappointing result for United, who felt that they were denied the three points after they had a stoppage time penalty appeal turned down. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 insists that the draw is ‘not the end of the world’ for his side.
Speaking after the match, the midfielder said, “We are still in a good position. We have got tough games ahead, but they (Arsenal and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786) have got tough games too. We don't want to be looking at results too much, we want to be winning games ourselves."
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already said that United should have been awarded a penalty for Danny Simpson’s challenge on Javier Hernandez. The Scot also criticised the referee for booking the United striker for diving. Carrick does not want to get too caught up in what could have been, but agrees with what Ferguson said.
The England international said, “You can see it on the telly, there is contact. It's disappointing when you don't get them because we thought it was another late goal for us, but you just have to deal with it and move on. It's not the end of the world at all, we are still in a good position.”
He added "It's not what we set out to do, but we move on. We need to bounce back with a big game on Saturday (at home to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019)."
Manchester United currently lead the Premier League standings with 70 points.
