Manchester United’s Patrice Evra believes his side must not lose focus at Stamford Bridge
Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has urged his side to remain focused when they visit Stamford Bridge for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Manchester United have not won a game at Chelsea’s home ground for the past 9 years, something that Evra finds hard to believe. The defender admits that the Blues were the better side at one time, but now that United have bridged the gulf in quality, Evra
is hard-pressed to explain why his side just cannot seem to win at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on Manchester United’s dismal record at Chelsea’s home ground, Evra said, “It is something very strange. Always we have the sensation we have played very well against Chelsea. In the end, at Stamford Bridge we always lose. Five weeks ago, there
was only one team on the pitch. One year ago, we lost to a strange decision.”
He added, “The key is our concentration. We can play better than them but we must concentrate until the last minute.”
In 2010, a controversial goal by Chelsea’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 resulted in defeat for the Red Devils, and United’s winless streak continued in the ongoing 2010-11 season with a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge just five weeks ago.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson wasted no time in attaching the blame for that loss on referee Martin Atkinson, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 believes that it was a matter of United losing their concentration in the final minutes of the game.
Manchester United and Chelsea are set to clash in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Red Devils will visit Stamford Bridge for the first leg of the tie on Wednesday, 6 April, 2011.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 will be looking to avenge their loss at the hands of United in the 2008 final in Moscow, and with their opponents currently crippled by an injury crisis, the Blues will be favourites to go through to the semi-finals.
Manchester United currently sit at the summit of the Premier League standings with 66 points.
